Is it for me?

The South of Mullach an Rathain on Liathach is perfectly positioned as an accessible and uncommitting scramble amongst spectacular surroundings. Although the only way to get to Liathachs summit is directly up, practically from sea level, this route makes the most of the journey and rewards us with lots of fun, optional scrambling throughout the trip the Liathachs Western Munro.

Following a rough path steeply and relentlessly up through the sandstone bands is tough work, thankfully, we are rewarded throughout by the dramatic surroundings and beautiful views out of Loch Torridon and towards the Western Isles.

Before too long, we traverse leftwards from the trail onto a shoulder and gain the start of the ridge that has been looming above us. The ridge contains many sections of fun and engaging scrambling, each buttress offering optional harder routes. All sections are escapable, with a paths bypassing any section that seems too much, but fun is to be had in the exploration and the experimentation and as you will have a capable mountaineering instructor above you at all times, offering advice, encouragement and a tight rope. you will be able to enjoy each of these sections of scrambling to the fullest. Eventually, after crossing a narrow arete and bypassing a few towers we reach easy ground with surprising suddenness and shortly beyond the Munro top. Views from the summit are dramatic, with Beinn Alligin, Beinn Eighe and the Am Fasarian pinnacles just some of many photogenic elements of the scenery.

From here, now unroped, we begin a Southerly retreat, following the rough path besides our ridge, downhill all the way, to our start point, the car and the end of our day.
