Single-pitch to Multi-Pitch Skills Course

Overview

Our two day multi-pitch development course is very versatile, this course is about refreshing, updating and developing your hard skills, helping you to access the longer and more committing mountain crags of the UK.

Location

The course can be based from either Aviemore or Fort William

Pre-requisites

Experience of leading graded single pitch rock routes.

Is it for me?

This is the ideal course if you have already have some experience of leading single pitch rock routes and you are ready to build on your knowledge.

Content

The course is flexible, taking into account prevailing conditions and your current level of experience.

As well as covering and refreshing all the basic core competencies required to be a safe second and lead climber, we look at the additional knowledge and judgement required to attempt multi-pitch routes.

The course focusses on the main differences in rope management between single pitch and multi pitch climbing, we look at climbing with a single or two seconds on the rope, stance management in a variety of situations and common problems and their solutions. We typically include a workshop on protecting seconds during traverses and abseiling as part of this course.

Additional information

With a maximum ratio of 1:2, this course ensures plenty of contact time with an experienced Mountaineering Instructor. Use of any required climbing and mountaineering equipment is included, but you are welcome to use your own familiar equipment. If you have a particular aim or objective in mind, please ensure to let us know in advance, so we can tailor the course content and the venue to maximise your learning opportunities.
