Overview 

This one day option gives you the opportunity to spend a full day with a qualified and experienced Mountaineering Instructor, looking at the core competencies required to be a safe second climber in the dynamic outdoor environment.

The course can be based from either Aviemore or Fort William

Is it for me? 

This is the ideal course for those who have done little or no outdoor climbing before and want to learn to become a competent member in a group of climbers.

 

Content 

The course is flexible, taking into account prevailing conditions and your current level of experience.

 

We cover a number of topics throughout the day in a practical, hands-on format, with discussions and workshops on;

 

Guidebook use, access and legislation, equipment, lead belaying, seconding, climbing technique, proper communication gear retrieval, common problems and basic self-rescue techniques.​We can also tailor this day to focus on specific areas of a climbers skill-set, such as self-rescue, retreat, abseiling or efficient rope work.

 

​We always aim to make this day as efficient and beneficial as possible, with minimal classroom time and a short approach to a suitable venue.

 

Additional information 

With a maximum ratio of 1:2 this course ensures plenty of contact time with an experienced Mountaineering Instructor. Use of any required climbing and mountaineering equipment is included, but you are welcome to use your own familiar equipment. If you have a particular aim or objective in mind, please ensure to let us know in advance, so we can tailor the course content and the venue to maximise your learning opportunities.
