Scrambling Learn to Lead Course

Overview 

This full, three day learn to lead course covers all the essential skills for safe, self-guided travel through the exposed mountaineering terrain you would expect to find on classic UK scrambling routes.

 

Location 

The course can be based from either Aviemore or Fort William 

 

Pre-requisites 

Some experience of scrambling, rock climbing or mountaineering experience is required. Determination is a must as the days can be demanding. We will be on the hill for up to 6 hours each day.

 

Is it for me? 

This is the ideal course if you have already have some experience of scrambling or mountaineering and are ready to start leading your own routes and taking responsibility of others.

 

Content 

The course is flexible, taking into account prevailing conditions and your current level of experience. We cover many topics over the three days, including but not limited to;

 

Defensive and efficient movement, rope work, belaying, placing protection whilst lead climbing, anchor selection, abseiling, using guidebooks, psychology, retreat and rescue skills and route selection.

 

If you have a particular aim or objective in mind, please ensure to let us know in advance, so we can tailor the course content and the venue to maximise your learning opportunities.

 

We choose suitable safe routes for you to hone your skills on before deploying them on a coveted Scottish classic.

 

Additional information 

With a maximum ratio of 1:2 this course ensures plenty of contact time with an experienced Mountaineering Instructor. Use of any required climbing and mountaineering equipment is included, but you are welcome to use your own familiar equipment.
