Fingers Ridge

A longer and tougher option than Pygmy Ridge, but still with very easy access. This fine line starts on slabs and finishes on photogenic pinnacles. The easy approach path makes this a great half-day choice or combine it with any other route in the Northern Corries or Loch Avon to create a fantastic full day mountain experience.

Some summer hillwalking experience. Some previous experience of scrambling, ideally at Grade 2 or above.

Is it for me?

Coire An T-Sneachda stands as possibly the most accessible (and mispronounced!) of all the high Cairngorm Corries. Highly regarded as a winter climbing venue, it also hold three excellent summer mountaineering lines.

The approach is easy, soon leaving the ski development behind and out of site and leading into a glacial corrie that teems with grouse and the occasional ptarmigan, gentle slopes followed by a boulderfield then steep scree slopes gain the start of the ridge.

This route climbs the full length of the North facing cliff, creating a building sense of commitment and exposure as the climb unfolds. A succession of slabs, grooves and buttresses lead to an airy arete and gravity defying pinnacles. Some sections of the route are quite technical and edge into true rock climbing territory, but with a qualified and experienced instructor guiding you, you will have the opportunity to attack all the fine, exposed parts of this route head on.

From the top of the buttress, views from the plateau include all the Northern Cairngorm Munros, such as Braeriach, Ben Macdui, Bynack Mor and Cairngorm. An easy return route to the starting point remains or choose from several options to extend this day and create a truly memorable mountain experience.
