Is it for me?
The Aonach Eagach Ridge is one of the most bucket-listed mountain days in the country. A narrow ridge of such epic proportions that should be on everyones agenda. With a qualified an experienced instructor guiding you, you will have the opportunity to attack the finest and most exposed sections of the ridge head on, making easy climbing moves in complete security 900m above scenic Glen Coe. That said, even taking the easiest options, the Aonach Eagach is a full and committing day, with no short cuts. Once committed to the ridge, there are no escape options other than to return or to complete the ridge.
Our day starts with a steep, immediate and unforgiving slog to the summit of Am Bodach. Although this is a tough start to the trip, it does mean that 90% of our ascent is over with quickly. Leaving the rest of the day to take in and enjoy the airy space walking along the ridge.
Following a tricky down climb that we may choose to abseil, the route ahead is obvious, almost a kilometer of bristling pinnacles leading to Stob Coire Leith. There are many rock spires, some easier and some harder, some optional, some not. Between them the ridge narrows to little more a meter wide at times. It's an atmospheric journey and photo opportunities are plentiful.
Once at the far end of the difficulties, easy mountain walking leads down for 4km or so to the road, by way of a slight traditional detour to the infamous Clachaig inn.
