Overview
This 2 day course will equip you with the essential skills for accessing the Scottish mountains under winter conditions.
Location
The course is based in Aviemore.
Pre-requisites
A good level of hill walking experience is required. Determination is a must as Scottish winter days can be ardurous and demanding. We may be on the hill for up to 6 hours each day.
Is it for me?
The course is ideal for those with summer hill walking experience looking to expand on their skills or hillwalkers looking to refresh or update themselves.
Content
The course is flexable, taking into account prevailling conditions and your exerience but will generally cover the following topics; preparation, equipment selection, basic winter movement skills, winter navigation, axe and crampons use, emergency shelters and accessing steep terrain. All the topics take place in a practical format during a journey in the Scottish winter mountains.
Additional information
With a maximum ratio of 1:6 this course ensures plenty of contact time with an experienced Leader. This course generally includes the ascent of a Scottish winter Munro if conditions allow. Use of helmet, ice axe and crampons are included however clients will need to source winter B2/B3 boots. We can aid in sourcing these if required.
